Dental Implants

Permanently restore the form, function and appearance of your smile with dental implants!

Nothing compares to a natural tooth, but if you have experienced tooth loss, dental implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth. This revolutionary technology differs from traditional tooth replacement treatments such as bridges and dentures as dental implants replace the missing tooth root, creating a solid foundation for prosthetic tooth replacements.

It is vitally important to replace missing teeth, not only for your appearance, self-confidence and full mouth function, but also for optimal oral health.

Dental implants have made a substantial impact on the dental profession since their development almost forty years’ ago. Although they have been around for some time now, modern techniques and developments in dental medicine have made implants one of the most popular dental procedures of today.

Missing teeth will have a major influence on other areas of your oral health including a reduction in jawbone density, this can cause gum problems and your teeth on either side of the space can move, becoming crooked and difficult to clean effectively.

Developed from medical grade titanium, receiving an implant is generally a two-stage process and for your first stage appointment, you will be referred to an implant specialist.

Placing your implant will consist of a small incision and the implant guided into the gum line in a precise position pre-determined through x-rays and oral examinations. The implant is left for a period of between 3-6 months, to allow it to bond naturally with the jawbone. This substitute for a natural tooth root then becomes the permanent fixture to which a crown or bridge is secured.

After the required healing period, your second appointment is scheduled with the team at Integrated Dental Health. A mould is made so your replacement crown or bridge can be fabricated in a dental laboratory. At a subsequent appointment, your new crown or bridge will be secured to your implant using CEREC technolgy.

Advanced Technology

Dental implants are essentially ‘screws’ that are constructed from a titanium alloy that is highly biocompatible with your natural jaw bone material. During the procedure, the implants are placed at the site of tooth loss into the jaw bone, which over a period of months, fully integrates with the natural jaw bone material (a process called osseointegration). This forms a permanent foundation for tooth replacements such as crowns or dentures.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants can rectify many of the negative side effects of tooth loss and present a range of benefits including:

  • Prevents existing teeth from migrating from position and distorting your bite.
  • Helps prevent jaw bone deterioration (a process that occurs a few months after tooth loss).
  • Decreases the chance of gum issue shrinkage.
  • Reduces the risk of TMJ syndrome.
  • Decreases stress exerted on the surrounding teeth.
  • Best of all, dental implants completely restore the form, function and appearance of your smile!

Caring for your implant is equally as important as caring for your natural teeth, brushing twice daily with a soft bristled toothbrush and flossing once a day. Although your implant is titanium and replacement teeth porcelain, your surrounding teeth and gum tissue are still susceptible to periodontal disease.

Scheduling six monthly oral exams and having your teeth professionally cleaned by our highly-qualified hygienist to maintain ongoing optimal dental health, will ensure your new implant and existing teeth are in pristine condition for many years.
